The department has a strong focus on performance practice and practice-led research. With high competence in artistic research, musicology and combinations of the two we offer an up-to-date, cutting-edge study environment.
The Department’s research activities are conducted both through the efforts of our individual artists and scholars, as well as through our research groups:
Our PhD-programme has two specialisations, one in Popular Music and one in Arts in Context, the latter which our Department is represented through. In addition to our own Research Fellowships, we are welcoming externally funded Research Fellows to follow our educational programme as well. Visit our PhD-programme’s Arts in context-specialisation:
If you wish to contact our academic staff for collaboration, lecturing invitations, exchange or participation in projects you are welcome to contact our Vice Dean of Research, Professor Anne Haugland Balsnes. It is also possible to contact our faculty and staff directly.
