The school offers membership, credit giving courses and a framework for collaboration with industry for PhD students enrolled at PhD-programs at USN, NTNU or UiA.
An important aspect of the school is industrial practise as collaboration with industry in order to develop the fellow’s knowledge and skills for industrial R&D&I. The collaboration with the industry should be arranged either as Internship directly related to the research by the fellow, temporary assignment with remuneration for project work and prolongation of university assignment, or as part of Industrial PhD fellowship or similar assignments like NRC IPN project fellow.
The available courses are Systems Thinking which is mandatory for being member of the school, and the optional courses in Innovations in Complex Systems and Reflective Practise, the latter must be combined with industrial practise.
The school is an addendum to the regular PhD programs at the listed universities. Each fellow must include the relevant courses and activities as part of in their individual coursework and plans to be approved by their host institutions, i.e. UiA PPCE and REC.
Contacts at UiA are Prof. Geir Grasmo at Dept. Eng. Sci., Prof. Christian Omlin at Dept. ICT and Sen.Adv. Emma E. Horneman PhD Coordinator at the Faculty of engineering and science.
