Announcement: Election of academic personnel in permanent positions to the University Board
The University Board has determined that the election of employee representatives in to the Board for the period 1. August 2019 – 31 July 2023 is to be held in the period spanning 1 April 10 am – 8 April 2 pm. this year. (NB: The Election Committee decided on Wednesday 3 April to extend the voting period with two days until Wednesday 10 March 2 pm.)
The election comprises two constituencies:
Academic personnel in permanent positions: Two representatives and three substitutes. (NB: The election of a representative from the constituency of academic personnel in temporary positions takes place later this spring)
Administrative and technical staff: One representative and two substitutes
4 March 10 am – 18 March 2 pm: Candidate proposal period. (A separate form must be used, downloadable from the university election pages and signed by the 5 proponents and the candidate, scanned and sent electronically by e-mail to elin.gauslaa@uia.no within the deadline. The form may also be hand delivered to the Election Committee’s secretary Elin Gauslaa at A6, Campus Kristiansand, within the proposal period.)
11. March 2 pm: Appeal deadline on the election roll. (Complaints must be forwarded as soon as they are discovered to the Election Committee’s secretary, e-mail elin.gauslaa@uia.no)
1 April 10 am – 8 April 2 pm: Voting period. You vote electronically on the voting page. (NB: The Election Committee decided on Wednesday 3 April to extend the voting period with two days until Wednesday 10 March 2 pm.)
The deadline for submitting complaints about the election is one week exactly from the time when the result of the election is published.
Candidates must be proposed by a group of at least 5 people with voting rights (as stated above).
Candidates must be employed or engaged by the university’s Appointments committee or Appointments advisory board for at least a half-time position and must have been employed at the university for at least six months before the election.
A person is not eligible if, at the beginning of the election period, he or she has held the same elected position for eight years or more.
Some administrative heads and directors are not eligible. See full list at the university’s election regulations.
Anyone who is employed or engaged by the university’s Appointments committee or Appointments advisory board for at least a half-time position, and who has started working in the position no later than on the day of the election, has a right to vote.
Anyone whose employment period lasts less than one year from the election day can only claim voting rights if employment has lasted continuously at least one year prior to the election day.
If the university is registered as the employer, anyone employed has a voting right regardless of funding source.
Anyone employed in a less than 50 per cent position has a right to vote if he or she has been employed continuously for at least two years leading up to the election day.
If in doubt about which constituency a person belongs to, the issue will be decided by the University Director. If in doubt about voting rights, the issue will be decided by the university’s Election Committee.
What if I am denied access to the voting page and thus unable to vote?
Whoever is denied voting rights, may still be given the opportunity to submit his or her vote. Any such ballots must be placed in a sealed envelope, labelled with the elector's name and address, and delivered to the Election Committee’s secretary Elin Gauslaa in A6 at Campus Kristiansand, by hand no later than at the end of the voting period. The ballot will then be kept safe considering appeals.
