Forskning

Offentlige retningslinjer, styring og ledelse/administrasjon, med fokus på høyere utdanning og offentlig vitenskap, og ved å ta i bruk "multilevel"-, komparative, kvantitative og blandede metoder forskningsdesign. Sentrale temaer: implementering og virkning av retningslinjer og politiske instrumenter (f.eks. NPM, forskningsberegninger), vitenskapsinstitusjoner (peer review), åpenhet for høyere utdanning og vitenskapelige system (internasjonalisering, interdisciplinarity, akademiske karrierer).

Publikasjonssteder - blant annet: Research Policy, Science and Public Policy, Public Management Review, Higher Education, Studies in Higher Education, Scientometrics, Research Evaluation, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology. Artikkelen om "self-citations" har blitt omtalt i Nature Index, London School of Economics impact blog a b, blitt intervjuet for Nature , Science og Physics Today . Hans medforfatteroppgave om konkurransen om å tiltrekke seg talent vant den Swiss Prize for Research in Education 2019. Han er blant arrangørene og forfatterne av oppfordringen om å dele data om fagfellevurderinger omtalt i Nature. Han har samarbeidet med forskningsfinansieringsbyrået COST siden 2017.Han blir regelmessig invitert som foredragsholder om akademisk publiseringsvirksomhet, fagfellevurdering og forskningsetikk (f.eks. ved Mahindra Center, Harvard University).

Han er Co-redaktør for European Journal of Higher Education med Manja Klemencic, medgründer og medlem av SQUARES - Støtte i kvantitativ forskning og statistikk-  ved Fakultet for samfunnsvitenskap.
