We get a lot of questions about two-step authentication and here you will find the most common ones.
What do I do if I can't scan the QR-code?
If you do not get the camera to scan the QR code with when you try to set up the application Microsoft Authenticator, then go to Settings on your phone - scroll down until you find Authenticator - Give Authenticator access to Camera.
What do I do if I get a new phone or Microsoft Authenticator no longer works on my phone?
If you experience that the Microsoft Authenticator app is not working properly, or you have a new mobile phone, you must set up the Microsoft Authenticator app again.
Select Authenticator app and then "Add" - select Next until a QR code appears.
Open the Authenticator app on your phone - select "Add work or school account".
The camera will open in the app and you will be able to scan the QR-code.
Hold the camera up towards the QR-code on your PC-screen and wait for the account to be registered (green light in the frame around the picture). Select Next on the PC and a test will appear on your phone. Select Approve - then press Next on the PC.
The application is now set up.
Go to the security page (https://aka.ms/mfasetup) and verify that Microsoft Authenticator is listed as standard method of authentication.
What do I do if I get a question: "Do you want to approve the login?" when I do not try to log in?
Select "Deny" in the app.
What do I do if my contact list or notes has disappeared from my phone?
When the Exchange account on your mobile no longer works, some users will experience that the phone contacts or notebook disappear.
If your phone contacts disappear, do the following:
Only the Outlook application on mobile / tablet is supported by the IT department, so the first thing you need to do is download this app. See how it is done here:
Open the app - go to the top left corner (where your profile picture or profile name is) and tap Settings (gear). Where it says Email Accounts, tap the arrow to the right of Office 365 and enable the Save Contacts item.
Press "Save to my iPhone" and check if the contacts are back again.
To make your contacts available in iCloud, go to Settings, select Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes and the App Store, iCloud, and enable Contacts to use iCloud.
If your notebook disappears, do the following:
If your notes have disappeared on your mobile, it is probably because the notes have been linked to the Exchange account which now does not work or has been removed.
You must then first set up the Exchange account by going to Settings on the mobile phone (iPhone), go to Passwords and accounts, and under Accounts then select «Add account».
Select Microsoft Exchange, enter your email address (@ uia.no) and press next, select Log in and enter the username and password for your uia account and Log in. Press Archive and your Exchange account is now back in place.
Then you have to go to Settings on the mobile phone (iPhone), select Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes and App Store, iCloud, and enable Notes to use iCloud.
Then go into Notes, open the Exchange Notes, select edit in the top right corner, select Move All to iCloud.
Which methods of autnetications is available for two-step authentication?
There are several ways to accept 2-step verification. We recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile phone.
If you don't own a smartphone, you can also install Microsoft Authenticator as a webbrowser plug-in on your computer. As a 3rd option you can also set up a USB-unit and software on your computer which must be available when authentication is to be approved. (You need to contact UiA-hjelp to obtain and activate this solution)
By "add method", you choose to add authentication methods - we recommend that you have both the Microsoft Authenticator app and Alternative Phone as authentication methods. (See How to add an alternative authentication method? For a more detailed description).
By changing the "Default login method", you select which method you want to use by default.
If you are unable to log on through your authentication method(s), contact UiA Help with valid ID at hand.
If you have a Norwegian D-number (11 digits), you can reset your two-factor authentication on the button below. Log into the form in the top corner through ID-porten.
What is two-factor authentication? Two-factor authentication is an additional level of security together with username and password.
It can be compared to a door that has two locks, one key lock and one codelock, where you must have both the key and the code to open the door.
Even if the key (password) should be lost, unauthorized persons will not be able to open the door without having the code.
Why two-factor authentication? Two-factor authentication makes your data considerably less vulnerable to identity theft.
All employees at UiA have had a mandatory two-factor login since autumn 2019.
How often do you have to log in? You don't have to log in with two-factor authentication every time. Once logged in, there can be a duration of 30 days per service.
