Eunice Gomes Fernandes

I am a researcher in Cognitive Science, with a specialization in Psycholinguistics

During my PhD (2015Universidade de Lisboa), I investigated the mechanisms of syntactic priming in language comprehension (using, e.g., self-paced reading and eye tracking methods). 

During 2016, I was a post-doctoral researcher at Université Paris Diderot, where I ran eye-tracking and questionnaire experiments to investigate pronoun resolution in Brazilian and European Portuguese. 

In 2017, as an external collaborator at Universidade de Lisboa, I joined a new research project with Miguel Borges (Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics) and Dr. Moreno Coco (University of East London), where we investigated ‘Visual Search in Ageing’. 

In 2019-2020 I was a Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen, where I joined a project led by Professors Louise Phillips and Ben Tatler, investigating 'Age differences in Social Attention and functioning'.

From January 2021 I joined the Fitness, Ageing and Bilingualism (FAB) research project, led by Prof. Linda Wheeldon, at Universitet i Agder. I am a postdoctoral researcher, and our project investigates how bilingualism and physical exercise affect cognitive/ language function in younger and older adults.

Research interests

My main research interests are language processing, visual attention, ageing, and bilingualism. I conducted most of my research using eye-tracking alongside other behavioural paradigms used in Cognitive and Social Psychology.
