Justyna Nytko

Participated at the European Integration Summer School (EISS) of the University of Agder in 2009.

Academically challenging

Why this programme: I checked out various summer courses. Other summer courses are often more expensive and not master level courses. EISS is academically challenging. With different nationalities involved it provides different viewpoints on the EU.

About the programme: There is a good mix of teaching styles and a rich student body. The various forms of teaching bring out different points of view. Seminars are hands-on; they require analytical skills instead of memorizing. The focus is on the students. Development of own opinions is considered important and you must relate to other countries as well as internal affairs in your own country.

It was worthwhile coming here. Jan Erik Grindheim, who is in charge of the programme, shows great enthusiasm. For example he wants to get to know all the students and shows a genuine interest in our opinions. The reading list is very well selected, and the lecturers’ biographies are impressive.

About UiA: It is interesting to be in these surroundings and reflect on Kristiansand vs. Oslo as well as on Norway vs. Poland.

Job opportunities: In the first round I hope for an internship in Brussels.

Advice to future EISS students: Study – and be open to learn more about the EU.
