Summer students 2011

Canadian Erica and Norwegian Alexander were two of the students from all over the world who met at European Integration Summer School at the University of Agder this year.
Erica McConnell - European Integration Summer School 2011 University of Agder

> Name: Erica McConnell
> From: Ottawa, Canada
> Background: BAH in European Studies with a focus in French and Business

Why EISS? I would like to live and work in Norway, so I saw the EISS programme as an opportunity to further my studies in my field of interest while experiencing Norwegian culture.

Future plans: I am currently looking for internship opportunities both in Canada and Europe, and I hope to one day work for the European Union, possibly doing research or in translation

Looking back on EISS: I've had a really great time taking the EISS courses and have met very friendly Norwegian and international students. The coordinators were helpful with administration and accommodation and were understanding and flexible. It was a very intense programme, but I enjoyed the challenge and after taking it I think I would like to pursue a masters degree. For all these reasons I've actually already recommended the programme to my home University in Canada. My bachelor's degree is in European Studies, and Canadians are often not aware of postgraduate opportunities in this area, so I wanted to promote a good programme that may help some students out in the future.

Alexander Kyllevik - European Integration Summer School 2011, University of Agder

Name: Alexander A. Kyllevik
Age: 24
From: Sandnes, Norway
Background: B.Sc. Development Studies from UiA / SOAS (London)

Why EISS? I was recommended the program by several friends

Future plans: Six months with interning at the Norwegian embassy in Kuala Lumpur, which is hopefully followed by another internship preferably within European politics

Looking back on EISS: The programme is of extremely high quality and the learning curve is very steep. In addition to this, the other students were very friendly and several of us developed lifetime friendships. If I had to put down something negative regarding the programme, it is that it is simply very much to read (30ECTS in 7 weeks). I will definitely recommend this programme to others. Kristiansand is a beautiful city, University of Agder a modern University, the lecturers are pedagogical and motivating. The students are interesting and outgoing.
