Postgraduate Programme - 30 Credits - 1 year(s) - Kristiansand
EUROPA
Applicants must have a BA in a relevant field of study such as social sciences, economics and law, or an equivalent background consisting of 180 ECTS.
Working language and literature is in English. Assignments and exams are in English only.
The module consists of two courses of 15 ECTS each:
ST-401 History, Institutions and Policies of European Integration
ST-402 Current Issues in the European Union
The first course is a problem-oriented introduction to the historical, economic and political processes behind the development of a European Community/Union. You learn about how the EU institutions work and how to study and understand the European Union as a political, economic and judicial system. The second course is focused on current issues in the development of the European Union, such as the development of a regional and social policy, a common foreign and security policy, or the future of the Constitutional Treaty of the European Union.
Upon completion of the European Integration Summer School the student will have acquired analytical skills and updated empirical knowledge of the political, economic and social integration in Europe.
European Integration Summer School is an extremely intensive study programme which is given over seven weeks during summer. There are lectures, working groups and role plays, and all students are expected to take an active part in the development of the study.
In addition to attending at least 80% of all classes, students have to hand in two individually written assignments of 1200 words each to be able to put themselves forward for the exam, one for each part. For both parts/courses ST-401 and ST-402 ) there is a six hours school examination. The language of instruction is English.
The European Integration Summer School can be taken as part of the Master in Public Policy and Administration. It can also be combined with other social science subjects, economics or law. It is perfect for people who would like to work in an international environment or at the national, regional and local level in Norway with issues related to European politics and the development of the European Union.
