Lombok findings
Lombok is characterised by dominating Muslim groups and communities. We find numerous Islamic schools and hospitals, and in public schools they teach no other religion but Islam. There are also still elements of traditional and pre-Islamic beliefs, and the Hindu minority is the strongest with roots in neighbouring Bali.

Most people told us that all religions and faiths co-exist in perfect harmony, but our findings do not generally support this view. An expanding tourist industry has a potential negative impact on religious life, and religious leaders want to contain tourism in protected areas. |
