Java findings
Yogyakarta is centrally located on Java, the most densely populated island. It is predominantly a Muslim area, but the signs of syncretism with Hinduism and Buddhism are visible.
Our data collection in Yogyakarta was partly made in and around the city centre, and partly in the more remote district of Gunung Kidul, in four different sub-villages in Giricahyo village.
