As the first group we were chosen to stay in Wangkung village, West Manggarai, to do research on religious beliefs and practices in this village ( desa). Desa Wangkung consists of several sub-villages, with Wangkung village as the centre. This desa is the largest in West Manggarai with its 44 km² and 1436 inhabitants.
The main religion in the desa is Catholicism. Only one person is registered with another religious faith. Traditions, Adat, are still very important for the identity of the people. Lack of infrastructure inhibits local development, and improved access to information and education is important to bring the village ahead.
