Christina Milsom - DM graduate in 2010

"I liked that it was so intense, that it embraced so many different themes, and that the programme emphasized both individuality and collaboration. This gave me the opportunity to do the field work and write a thesis about something that interested me. Moreover, the flexibility of an online study was important for me, as this made it possible to combine a job and a lot of traveling at home and abroad."

Christina Milson

Christina graduated from the master programme in Development Management in 2010.

She now works in the programme department in the Strømme Foundation (Strømmestiftelsen) as adviser on education and as desk officer for West Africa.

"Face-to-face meetings, both in Kristiansand and Sri Lanka, was a positive experience, because you were better acquainted with the others on the study and was well placed to collaborate with each other. Highlights in Sri Lanka were visits at various aid agencies as the UNDP's regional office and Forut, and the experience of living in a Sinhalese family a few days in preparation for field work.

I did field work with my fellow student, Borghild Berge, in six camps for internally displaced people in northern Uganda. The theme was gender relations and sexual violence among internal refugee women in northern Uganda.

In my job, I also work on issues related to the topic and field work in my thesis. It is possible to take lessons learned from my master's thesis into my job here. We also try to achieve a partnership with the University of Agder, which will make it possible to increasingly make use of expertise from research and university community in the aid community where I work. The knowledge of good development and aid is in mind when I work in Strømmestiftelsen. Some tools that the study highlights, for example, logical content analysis (the "Logical Framework Approach"), I use a lot at work.

The Development Management programme was exciting, instructive and intense!"
