Current

research

activity

I am currently working on an EU-project of digitization of the Byzantine Manuscripts at Leimonos Monastery, Lesbos, Hellas, run by the Prefecture of Lesbos. The project produces a Data Base and a digital library of the manuscript collection, to be on-line by August 2008.

At the same time I am preparing a research project on “Propaganda and Political Sanctity in Byzantium”, that will hopefully open by the beginning of 2009. The main aim of this project, that will produce a monograph and several papers, is to establish new knowledge in the field of Byzantine and medieval political propaganda, by studying published and unpublished Byzantine textual and visual sources. In particular, the project will focus on Byzantine imperial propaganda and the use of sanctification and sanctity by and in it, from the beginning of the 8th century to 1453. Furthermore, it will undertake a comparative study of how sanctity was used by Byzantine propaganda to corresponding propagandistic methods used in the Slavic and the Western European world.
