About the project:
Achieving accountability in school practice is one of the core issue, if not the key issue on the international agenda of school improvement and one of the central aims of the current school reforms in Norway. The ASAP project aims at an empirical evaluation of whether the tools, which are being used to achieve accountability, do in fact have the expended results, and what can be done to help school owners (municipalities and counties) and schools to deal with accountability. To achieve this, the project studies the political frame of accountability and its impact and enactment at local and school level. As accountability is based on a wide range of economical, organizational, regulatory and pedagogical tools, the project is using a cross-disciplinary approach, integrating empirical research from fields like school economy and management, policy analysis, program evaluation, school improvement etc.
