Dømmesmoen for tourists

ancient cultural landscape with an abundance of heritage monuments (43 burial sites dating back to 200-600 AD). Beautiful parkland surrounds Dammen, a natural spring which used to be old Grimstad town's water supply. Grimstad Municipality purchased parts of the property in 1866 and built the upper basin which was to become the reservoir for the town's first waterworks. From Dammen, the park is hosting buildings and roads, and stretches out towards forest and arable land. Ideal for walks, easy access for disable. Previously owned by the school of Horticulture, this area is currently part of Agder University and is used for training and studies.

Dømmesmoen Trails are part of the trail starting at Groos; Groosebekken Adventure Trails and Hamsun's Footpaths. Until the mid-1700s, Dømmesmoen was an officer's farm. The trail leads past interesting plant collections and cloning projects, burial mounds, and stone formations, to the Norwegian Museum of Horticulture by the impressive Kongehaugen. Further on, the trail slopes gently along the Ra moraine deposited during the last Ice Age. Here you'll find a wide variety of natural habitants and ecosystems.
