Summing up Nggela findings
Religion and tradition are considered as two separate important elements in people’s lives. Under the surface, you can sense a power struggle between the leaders of the different institutions. Even though there is harmony among them, they still compete for people’s attention.
During our stay, we noted that people had a genuine lack of interest in politics, except in cases where political decisions directly influenced their lives. They have been listening to too many broken promises from politicians campaigning, and their knowledge of the amount of corruption in the area also seems to have had a big impact.
Most people in the village acknowledged that the area had potential for economic growth, especially through tourism, but lack of education and a real plan on how and what to do about it was lacking, to say the least.
