Bureaucratic structure and leadership

Wangkung structure

The Romo, The Tua Golo and the Secretarius

Every village in Indonesia has a primary government representative, or a village head, known as the Kepala Desa. The Kepala Desa in Wangkung was elected in 2003 for a 5 year period. His role in Wangkung is to maintain regular contacts with the higher levels of government, and to deal with everyday administrative tasks. The stability of the society and security for the population are other responsibilities.

If any, the Kepala Desa will also be involved with proposing or supervising development projects in the desa. One of his major current cases is to build a new high-school in Wangkung, so the kids will have an improved educational offer. He is also concerned with the healthcare facilities and tries to improve them.

The Kepala Desa has a staff consisting of a secretary and a kaur, who helps him with his tasks and duties. Sub-villages ( dusun) in the Wangkung desa all have a Kepala Dusun, a person who reports to the Kepala Desa. The sub-villages are further divided into vicinities called rukun tetangga (RT), where a Kepala RT reports to the Kepala Dusun.
