Hinduism

The Hinduism found in Indonesia is in some ways different form the one found in India. The gods are the same, but the way of practice is different. 1% of the Indonesian population (2.3 million) belong to the Hindu faith, most of these live in Bali. Hinduism came to Indonesia with traders from India during the 7th and 8th century and later it moved to Bali from Java, when Islam took over the island in the 17th century.

Hindu original

Hindus believe in purity, good deeds, and the interplay between the pillars:

1. Theology ( Shradda): Understanding

2. Ethics / moral (thoughts, words, deeds): Daily life

3. Rituals (god, gurus, ancestors, humankinds, nature): Actualization of religious life

The theology, Tattawa, is based on 5 beliefs, Panca Shradda:

1. God ( Brahman)

2. Atman (Part of God that inspires humans and animals etc.)

3. Karma (The faith of goodness etc)

4. Punarbhawa (reincarnation, related to Karma)

5. Moksha (the unity of Brahman and Atman)
