Flores day-by-day

Flores, Sig wakes up 1701

Sigbjørn wakes up after a night on the deck

After eating breakfast on the boat, it was time to see the dangerous Komodo dragons on the Rinca Island.

Some of the girls were especially warned because the Komodo dragon has a good smell and aggressive attraction towards females during their periods. Warned and exited we jumped into the smaller boats to take us to the island and Komodo National Park.

This one is about two metres long

Komodo dragon, the largest living lizard!

Our first impression was quite overwhelming when welcomed by a large, two metres dragon, and the guide only had a stick to keep it away. Fortunately, the Komodo did not seem aggressive and just kept on walking.

Because of the heat, both humans and komodo dragons were quite slack this day, and we had the opportunity to get close to sleeping dragons. It did not help to use the unfortunate girls as bate, the Komodos were just as sleepy. Maybe because of the huge buffalo they already had for dinner earlier this week, with only bones left.

Flores. Guide, komodo

The Ranger

We were a bit disappointed over the fact that the komodo dragons do not kill tourist for fun. The guide had told us stories about missing people and the poison in the dragon bite that kill you after a few days in horrible pain. A little horror story to take back home would be nice. But luckily, no one got eaten, bitten or hurt in any way but sunburns. Hungry and sweaty we went back to the boat ready for a cooling swim with some snorkelling.

Flores. Elin and playing with the kids

We sailed to an Island right off the coast from Labuhan Bajo. Some of us visited a village with hundreds of children as our guides. They were not used to white people and went bananas on us.
