NORCOWE - Offshore Wind Energy Conference

The NORCOWE meeting at UiA 7th-9th May will be a good occasion to get familiar with key topics within offshore wind energy research and development.

NORCOWE - vindmølle til havs.

NORCOWE (Norwegian Centre for Offshore Wind Energy) is a research centre under the FME scheme (Forskningssentre for miljøvennlig energi).

Topics addressed by NORCOWE
Large-scale production of offshore wind energy requires large investments, and most of the work in NORCOWE is aimed at reducing the cost per unit energy produced.
NORCOWE has five work packages:
WP1 has strong focus on resource mapping and the marine boundary layer (MBL)
WP2 looks at innovative design and dynamic analysis
WP3 covers marine operations, control systems and maintenance
WP4 addresses optimization of design and operation of large wind farms while
WP5 addresses measurement and equipment, environmental monitoring and education.

The five work packages with subtasks (partners involved in the work package in parentheses):

WP1 -Wind and ocean conditions (CMR, StormGeo, Uni, UiB)

  • Climatology of met/ocean conditions
  • Modelling of the marine boundary layer

WP2 -Offshore wind technology and innovative concepts (CMR, UiS)

  • Dynamic response
  • Innovative concepts

WP3 - Offshore deployment and operation (AAU, CMR, Origo, UiA, UiS)

  • Asset management
  • Single turbine control systems
  • Remote operations
  • Marine operations

WP4 -Wind farm optimisation (AAU, CMR, StormGeo, Uni)

  • Nowcasting
  • Power systems integration
  • Wind farm modelling

WP5 -Common themes (CMR, StormGeo, UiB, Uni)

  • Education
  • Environmental impact assessment
  • Test facilities and infrastructure

All topics will be addressed at the conference at University of Agder Campus Grimstad. Both students and employees at University of Agder are welcome to join!
