Temaet for workshopen er "Didactics: Media, diversity and gender. Didactics is the common perspective to be reflected in the three themes/keywords media, diversity and gender."

Rektor Torunn Lauvdal kommer og ønsker velkommen på vegne av UiA. Gruppa håper på godt vær slik at det blir muligheter for å ta med tyskerne på en skrytetur gjennom Skippergada.

Programmet for konferansen ser slik ut:

Didactics: Media, diversity and gender

Goal for the workshop: Coming up with a synopsis to an anthology to be published, in which we all contribute. On this stage we plan individual papers/articles. Our common grond can be made visible in the book as a whole.

Didactics is the common perspective to be reflected in the three themes/keywords media, diversity and gender. Media, diversity and grender as keywords has risen from what we know of yours and ours fields of research interests. We have counted for 20 minutes paper presentation and 10 minutes questions and comments on each paper. Here are some reflections on what we think can give direction to the papers we present:

Media

This theme will mainly focus on: The reception of didactic approaches and their further development to integrate new media. Didactics and media can possibly be explored in the anthology by 1. Examining the general differences between the Didaktik (Allgemeine Didaktik) approach and learning theory approach to the use of digital media in teaching. 2. The Didaktik approach to the teaching context when digital media is used, combining Heimann and Klafki. 3. How can a Bildungstheorie be developed, which includes media? Discussion of the terms Bildung, media literacy, competence, Medienkritik, Mediennutzung, Medienkunde and Mediengestaltung. PS: These three possibilities are not the three papers.

Diversity

The didactic approach has neglected the challenge of diverse group of students in the classroom. A Scandinavian solution to this has been what we call ‘adapted teaching’ which according to our argument has failed its purpose. Now political changes in Germany indicate that schools will have to handle more diverse groups of students in their classrooms. Special education is challenged to come up with solutions. Diversity is an issue that may be addressed by different understandings of teaching and didactics, but also by the understanding of learning environment and the possibilities or limits for inclusion.

Gender

While earlier research showed that girls were disadvantaged in school, the situation has changed during the last decades; girls attain better marks than boys in most subjects. From the perspective of gender plurality, in opposition to the two-sex model, it is important to i) explore how teaching methods, curriculum and teachers’ sex affect girls and boys’ school performances, ii), assess if modern curriculum and didactic perspectives on self-regulated learning, co-operation and reflection disadvantage certain groups of students, and iii) discuss alternative ways of dealing with the gender challenge, as is intersect with ethnicity, race and social class.
