About the faculty

The faculty has about 135 staff members and hosts approximately 1500 students (full-time and part-time) each year at our campuses in Grimstad and Kristiansand. The faculty offers state-of-the-art modern facilities, with laboratories and training units on both campuses. There is also a clinical nursing simulation laboratory and an e-health lab on our new campus in Grimstad. The faculty has three departements: Department of Public Health, Sport and Nutrition Department of Health and Nursing Science Department of Psychosocial Health

Study programmes and course descriptions

The faculty offers master's programmes in sport science, community mental health work, health science, public health science and health informatics (90 ECTS, online, part-time programme) and a PhD programme in health science.The faculty offers bachelor's programmes in nursing, social education, sport and public health, and domestic science, in addition to one-year programmes in sport/physical education, outdoor education and nature guiding, and domestic science. The faculty also offers a wide choice of continuing education programmes in health and social care subjects.

Activities

Through teaching, research and dissemination the faculty will endeavour to promote health, nutrition, physical activity, care and quality of life from a health promotion perspective. The faculty will provide health personnel, teachers and other educators with useful knowledge, skills and attitudes.

The faculty cooperates closely with various sports organisations, the school sector and health and social services in the Agder region. Several of the programmes of study involve different forms of practical placements, varying from short observational practice, practical courses and laboratory practice to the Bachelor's Programme in Nursing, where half of the study programme consists of supervised clinical placements in various areas of the public health system.

Many programmes offer international student exchange. At present the faculty has exchange agreements throughout Scandinavia and Europe, as well as in Australia, New Zealand and several African countries. The possibilities for international exchange vary with the individual study programmes.
