Department of information- and communication technology (ICT)
The ICT department is responsible for education and research within ICT engineering and technology issues, and offers bachelor, master and PhD study programmes with strong international profiles.
The department research is widely recognized, and researchers regularly receive “best paper” awards for their contributions in various international forums. The PhD programme in ICT has more than 20 PhD students, who contribute strongly to both education and research. Over the years the department has hosted a number of international conferences, seminars, workshops and PhD courses, like GUADEC 2004, SDL ’05, NWUML ’06, ASM ’07, and NIK '08.
The department has a large portfolio of research projects, such as the current EU projects EIAO and eGovMon, which address automated large-scale evaluation of eGovernment solutions, and the project SEMPOC. The projects include a number of international research partners and substantial participation from users.

| The research is performed in four research groups:
The Multimedia Group: The group applies a variety of technologies to provide advanced multimedia content.
The Mobile Communications Group: We handle all aspects of mobile communication, starting from properties of communication channels in the Mobile Communications Group up to mobile applications and services in the Agder mobility lab
The Information Systems Group: The work concerns the use of systems and the application of ICT in real projects. The group has

The Systems and Security Group: The group works within a very broad range of topics related to systems development and security. |
The department offers the following study programmes: · A Bachelor’s Programme in Computer Science, with specializations in “Programming” and “Networks and security”. · A Bachelor’s Programme in Electronics and Mobile Communications, targeted towards Mobile & Embedded applications. · A Bachelor’s Programme in Multimedia Technology and Design, targeted towards advanced multimedia content production for industry, press, organizations etc. · An international Master’s Programme in ICT, fully taught in English, with profiles such as security, mobile communications and system development, and with strong project focus in cooperation with local industry. ·A 90 ECTS Master's programme in Health Informatics, for students in the health and social services. |
