The study profile Foundation in Mechatronics is the classical profile based on the third year study programme in 2006. The study profile Electronic Control Systems has an increased focus towards electronics, micro processors, industrial communication and robotics. A typical company interested in Mechatronics engineers with such a background is XStrata Nickel in Kristiansand. The third study profile is Marine Technology. Two important courses in this profile are Design for Marine Environments 1 and 2. Professor II Carl M. Larsen from NTNU-Trondheim is a guest lecturer in Design for Marine Environments 2. This study profile is focused on the large group of companies in southern Norway which manufacture and deliver equipment to the offshore industry. See for example the participating companies in NODE.

The topic for the bachelor thesis (15 ECTS credits) should normally be relevant to the chosen study profile. If you study for example marine technology in the third year, then the thesis should also contain topics within marine technology. It is possible for two students in different study profiles to do a thesis project together, as long as the topics for each student are relevant to the study profile.

One characteristic of the Master Programme in Mechatronics at UiA compared to many similar study programmes abroad, is its focus on systems with large moments and forces and the use of hydraulic actuators. The study programme is therefore adapted to the local industry within oil & gas as well as the process industry which are world-leading manufacturers of drilling equipment, anchor systems, heave-compensated cranes and material technology. We can guarantee a masters thesis in collaboration with one of our partner companies within these two industries.
