Knowledge
Upon course completion, students should be able to:
- apply knowledge of group size, pupil variations and cultural diversity in planning, carrying out and evaluating teaching
- give an account of the teachers rights and duties and the teaching efforts at organisational level
- give an account of research and development efforts in schools
- describe the school as an organisation and a social institution
- identify key issues in the transition between day-care and school and between primary level and lower secondary level
- describe how conflicts and bullying can be prevented and handled
Skills
Upon course completion, students should be able to:
- independently and in cooperation with others, plan, carry out and evaluate teaching of pupils at primary level
- discuss didactic challenges associated with education in a multicultural society
- facilitate and lead learning efforts by differentiating and varying working methods based on group size and the purpose of the teaching
- use various forms of assessment as part of their teaching efforts and facilitate the pupils self-assessment
- plan and assess parent meetings and development talks with pupils
- interact with colleagues, the school administration, parents/guardians and other players in schools
- based on theory and research, identify bullying and harassment and discuss ways to handle this
General competence
Upon course completion, students should be able to:
- identify and reflect on professionally ethical perspectives and have developed a teacher identity and action competence based on such issues
- be aware of the social mandate of schools
- show commitment and apply methods for further developing themselves, their profession and their future workplace through collegial cooperation and interaction with external players
- participate in development and change processes
The school as an organization, cooperation with bodies outside the school and development of a professional teacher identity
Teamwork, individual preparation, observation, practice, participation in mentoring activities, planning, carrying out and evaluating teaching, student-operated school
Upon completion of the teaching practice, students will receive an individual written assessment with the grade of passed/failed. 100% attendance is required to achieve a passing grade. The student assessment must be based on the description of learning outcomes. Students will present the assessment report to the practice teacher at the beginning of the following practice period.
