Students with a bachelor degree in Music or an equivalent education can be admitted. Students with a bachelor degree in Business Administration can also be qualified for admission. Applicants with other relevant education could be admitted after individual assessment.

The programme is designed as a comprehensive master´s programme aimed at developing a specific set of skills necessary to understand and work in the music industry as an entrepreneur or employee. The core competencies taught are emerging markets, emerging rights (revenue streams) and emerging technologies. Hence, the program is about developing practical skills in the subject areas, as well as exploring and developing the purely academic aspects of these subjects. There is a high demand for further research in these areas.

The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.
On successful completion of this programme, the student should:
Competence
- Be able to develop activity, generate and control income streams from a musical product.
- Be able to
provide advice and guidance as a manager and intermediary in
parts or the whole of the career of an artist
- Be
able to work for and assists existing organisations in the
music industry such as broadcasters, record companies,
publishers, collective management organisations or
others.
-Have an understanding of the composite of the music industry and its history.
Skills
- Be able to follow or lead a musical process from idea to product.
- Recognize and articulate a relevant business case from a given artistic product
- Be able to trust and utilize independent entrepreneurial and creative skills in order to appropriately finance, market, disseminate and sell works of music
Knowledge
- Have an understanding of relevant methods of production and dissemination.
- Have an understanding of business law and copyright/author´s rights
- Have knowledge about new technologies and new business models in the relevant area.
- Have an understanding of finance, PR and presentation techniques
- Know how to critically assess the validity and general applicability of conclusions drawn in his/hers or others theoretical dispositions.
The student is obliged to
- work
independently and systematically
- participate in group works, seminaries and lectures
- receive and respond to continuous feedback based on consultation, smaller exams, reports and papers from the student
- establish and actively participate in student groups in order to collaborate on projects and to discuss, analyze and document progress in their studies
Guidance groups will be set up in connection with the master thesis. This consultation team will follow the student´s progress towards a final evaluation at the end of the 2 year program.
All students are obliged to have consultations before the final thesis is finished.
Several forms of assessment are used. The assessment form for a course is given in the course description.
A study abroad programme may be included in the programme. Students may spend one semester at a university with which Faculty of Fine Arts has an agreement. Contact Student mobility adviser for further information about current exchange institutions.
The students will be equipped to work in established institutions, organisations and companies within the media industries such as radio and broadcasting, record and publishing companies, collective management organisations (CMO) etc. nationally and internationally.
The study programme leads to the degree of Master of Music Management.
