The program will provide students with knowledge of:
- school library as a resource
in the students' academic and general education
-
information literacy, theoretical basis and practical teaching
in schools
- adapted to teaching in the school
library
- continuing reading training
-
development of students' reading strategies in working with
scientific texts, fiction and complex texts

The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.
On successful completion of the programme the
students;
- have developed an overall understanding
of the role the school library can play as learning and
education arena in a multicultural and technological society
- have further developed their knowledge of school
library resources in teaching and enable seeing this in a
social perspective
- could make didactic and
methodological reviews concerning the use of library and
learning resources in schools
- have acquired
theoretical and practical knowledge in the information literacy
- information retrieval, source assessment, reading different
kinds of texts and use of information in forming their own
knowledge - and be able to pass their knowledge on

have good knowledge of recent research on reading development
- are able to reflect on and demonstrate how the
school library can be used in the students' efforts to develop
reading strategies
The program is designed as Internet-based distance learning over two semesters, fall and spring. There are two public meetings, one voluntary and one mandatory.
There will be one graded grade in each course.
The grade is based on an individual written examinations in
subject SK-200 and an individual written assignment in subject
SK-201. See course descriptions!
Students who have completed a width of unity within the
school library knowledge (30-60 credits) is allowed
implementing this into a number of bachelor's degrees. It
planned a bachelor's degree in school library knowledge.
Subject to the approval of it, the three studies within the
school library knowledge could be included in a specialization.
The program provides vocational competence as a
school librarian in primary and secondary education. Competence
can also be used in the public library, county libraries and
academic libraries.
