The programme aims to give students an introduction
in educational use of The School Library including knowledge of
and skills in how to organise, develop and maintain a school
library as well as an introduction in literature and
media.
The programme may be included in the optional
part of General Teacher Education, in several Bachelor
Programmes, in a self-made Bachelor Programme and may be a
further education for teachers in primary school and in upper
secondary school.
Arrangements for the recognition of prior learning are described in the information on the institution under "General arrangements for the recognition of prior learning (formal, informal and non-formal)".

The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.
Having completed the programme the students
should
- acquired knowledge and skill necessary for
organizing and developing a school library
- have
knowledge about teaching materials as an educational resource
for learning environment in school
- be able to use
and evaluate different teaching materials and information
sources
- knowledge of and skills in how to organise
the information and how to manage a school library

have an insight in the use of school library in relation to
literature- and culture- offers to children and young
people
Distance teaching/using web based presentation. Two optional common -meetings will be arranged in Kristiansand.
One summarized differentiated grade will be given.
The programme may qualify teachers for work in the
school library, primarily in primary school, but also in
secondary school.
It is possible to continue to the
extension programmes School Library Studies 2 and School
Library Studies 3.
