Various aspects of the Norwegian society both historically and present-day are presented and discussed. The main elements in the course are Norwegian history, important elements of education in Norway and Norwegian literature and language. Other important aspects of the Norwegian society which are dealt with are: Music, art, open air activity and topics in social science. The comparative element is important and widespread in the course.
Both excursions and the school experience weeks are intended to be important and integrated parts of the course.

The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students are expected to be able to:
- give an overview of Norwegian society and culture in a historical and present-day perspective
- describe differences and similarities between society and culture in Norway and their home countries
- have in-depth knowledge about the Norwegian school system
- communicate colloquially in Norwegian (optional)
Lectures, seminars, 2 school experience weeks and four excursions.
One report from school experience and one project work related to various aspects of the course make the students prepared for an essay in a group of 3-4 students (50% of final grade) and an individual oral examination (50% of final grade).
Clean Police Record and Tuberculosis Examination
All students must present a clean police record and be able to document a tuberculosis examination before they can participate in the school experience weeks.
