Mathematics, 1-year Programme
60 ECTS credits - 1 year - Kristiansand
MAT60
MAT60
60
Admission to the programme requires three years of mathematics studies at the upper secondary school level.
The aim of the programme is to provide the students with a good foundation in mathematics. The programme comprises courses in calculus, algebra, geometry, statistics and differential equations and modelling.
Arrangements for the recognition of prior learning are described in the information on the institution under "General arrangements for the recognition of prior learning (formal, informal and non-formal)".
For a description of the examination regulations, see the Examination Regulations of the University of Agder.
For information about the Norwegian grading system, see ECTS credits and grades. Specific information on grading for each course is found in the individual course descriptions.
The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.
On successful completion of the programme, the student should be able to
- explain and apply central concepts in calculus, algebra, geometry and statistics
- apply central techniques commonly used in mathematics and statistics
- communicate mathematical ideas and solutions
- apply appropriate software in mathematics
Teaching will be a blend of plenary lectures, instruction at the computer lab and team work assignments. There are compulsory tasks and project work in all courses. Please see separate course descriptions for more information.
Assessment is based upon final written examinations and project reports. There will be final examinations in all courses. Please see separate course descriptions for more information.
The 1-year Programme in Mathematics provides students
who are generally interested in science a good start for
further studies. Since mathematics also is a tool in many other
subjects than science, e.g. economics and sosial science, the
1-year Programme is a sensible choice also for those students
who are uncertain about what they want to study.
The
1-Year Programme in Mathematics provides students with the
academic foundation necessary for teaching mathematics at all
levels of lower/upper secondary school.
The programme equals 60 credits. Each course equals 10 credits and can be taken independently of the others. Those who wants to take only parts of the programme, can apply for intake on single courses.
