Bachelor's Programme in Nursing
Autumn
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- perform relevant procedures independently
- perform lifesaving heart and lung procedures
- observe, assess, plan, execute, evaluate nursing care for patients
- document nursing care for patients
- adapt communication style to people in various life situations
- show respect for patients integrity and rights
- show responsibility in relation to confidentiality requirements
- reflect upon various professional challenges
- demonstrate a high level of proficiency in medication calculation during practical studies
- use an electronic procedure manual
ECTS credits distribution based on the National curriculum:
- Nursing's function and tasks in community health service 7.5 ECTS credits
- Nursing's function and tasks in specialised health services 1.0 ECTS credits
- Microbiology, infectious diseases and hygiene 2 ECTS credits
- Nursing's history, traditions and professional ethics 0.5 ECTS credits
- General pathology, disease and pharmacology 3 ECTS credits
- Psychology and education 0.5 ECTS credits
- Communication, interaction and conflict management 0.5 ECTS credits
Of these12 ECTS credits are practical studies in cooperation with patients and relatives and 3 ECTS credits are related to skills development/preparation/reflection on the practice period.
The course will provide students with knowledge about and experience with basic nursing to patients. Preventing failure of functions and attending to the patient's basic needs will be the focus in the clinial studies.

- Various practical procedures
- Lifesaving heart and lung procedures
- Practical (electronical) procedures
- Practical studies in nursing
Lectures, group work, skills development in the university's training ward and 8 weeks of guided practical studies in cooperation with patients/relatives. There is reflection on both an individual and group basis upon students' practice periods in both oral and written form. Compulsory attendance at all practice sessions (90 %), training ward sessions as well as preparation for and reflection upon the practice period.
Requirements for starting clinical studies:
- Skills development with approved test
- Performed heart and lung procedures
- Signed a declaration of secrecy

Assessment of clinical studies is pass / fail (please refer to section five in the regulations of the National Curriculum). In order to pass the clinical studies students must be able to document a minimum of 90% attendance rate, as well as in preparation to and reflection upon clinical studies. In addition, the following course reguirements must be approved:
- individual plan for nursing
- reflection notes
- reflection groups
The student´s period of clinical studies is assessed according to a prescribed assessment form.
