The course is based on SY-301 Nursing and Community and SYP203 Nursing - Clinical Studies, Surgery - Medicine, SYP204 Nursing - Clinical Studies, Community Nursing, SYP205 Nursing - Clinical Studies, Psychiatric Care.
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- evaluate reseach reports and findings
- apply principles from research methodology for project planning and implementation
- discuss professional challenges related to the field
- explain the theoretical background and research tradition of nursing
Credit distribution:
- Function of Nursing and Community Health Services 1 credit
- History of Nursing, Tradition and Professional Ethics 3 credits
- The Scientific-Theoretical Foundation of Nursing, Development of the Profession and Nursing Research 7.5 credits
- Scientific-Philosophy and Research Methods 3 credits
- Ethics 3 credits
- Communication, Cooperation and Conflict solving 1 credit
- Governmental- and municipal knowledge, health and social politics 1.5 credits
One credit of these is related to preparation and reflection upon practice and 9 credits to clinical studies (in-depth practice).
The focus will be on professional development and nursing research. Students will go in-depth theoretically and practically in a self-chosen topic and complete a Bachelor´s thesis in nursing.

Possible areas of specialisation include:
- Mental health care
- Geriatric care
- International health work
- Chronically ill patients

- Urgent care nursing
- Paediatric nursing
Possible areas of specialisation will be presented in the students' learning management system Fronter for each academic year.
Lectures, database search, clinical studies,
compulsory supervision and work on the Bachelor´s project.
Students will have up to six weeks of in-depth or introductory
practice. Please see guidelines in the students' learning
management system Fronter.
Some travelling related to
instruction must be expected. Possible expenses related to
in-depth or introductory practice must be covered by the
students.
- Approved presentation of project description at a project seminar
- Approved a research article analysis related to the area of specialisation
- Participated in compulsory supervision
- Completed elective practical training in area of specialisation
