On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to

  • explain, and reflect didactically on, central topics of mathematics belonging to pupils of age 10 to 12 years old
  • demonstrate good skills in planning, carrying out and evaluating mathematics teaching at this level
  • explain the role of language for mathematics learning and demonstrate proficiency regarding oral and written mathematical communication
  • elaborate theories of learning and organize varied and adjusted lessons by use of conretization and software
  • demonstrate good skills when it comes to avoiding and detecting mathematics learning difficulties as well as perform teaching in such a way that all pupils will have the feeling of mastering

Central topics of mathematics belonging to pupils of age 10 to 12 years old, with emphasis on arithmetics. Discussions on themes connected with learning and teaching of mathematics at the mellomtrinn. Practical training in organization of varied and adjusted mathematics lessons.

Lectures, work in small groups

Students must pass the compulsory assignemets in order to take the examination.

5-hour written examination. Graded assessment.
