IDR103-1 Physical and Motor Development in Children and Adolescents

After having completed the course, the student will have a basic knowledge of children's and adolescents' development and learning in general, and physical and motor development in particular. The students will be able to supervise children and youngsters when playing and when they do sport activities in various environments.
This includes:
- understanding children growing up in a modern society
- to be able to describe various theoretical perspectives on the development of children and adolescents
- to be able to explain children's and adolescents' development of movement
- to be able to discuss the importance of play in children's development and learning
- to be able to carry out activities in various environment
knowledge of the regulations concerning children's sport activities and the guidelines for adolescents' sport activities
- "Life span" motor development
- Theoretical perspectives on general development
- Testing motor skills
- Activities in water
- Play
- Environmental conditions
- Teaching sports for children and adolescents
- Seminar of the importance of physical activity for children and adolescents in a modern society
- Practice with children and adolescents
Available teaching will comprise about 60 student lessons. Teaching will be given as lectures, seminars, group work and also practising activities (games and sports) in various environments (outdoor, in water, indoor) and as practical work with children and adolescents in various activity environments and in various sport activities.
All teaching in practical sport activities is compulsory (please see course schedule).
- Required attendance for compulsory instruction (please see course schedule)
- Passed practice period with children or adolescents
- Passsed practice report (please refer to course schedule regarding requirements for design, contents and volume)
- Passed a 2-hour written individual test (midterm)
A graded 4-hour written individual examination
