General description and profile of the programme The programme emphasizes a constrative perspective on language and culture and gives a broad insight into linguistic and cultural topics. The programme may contribute to improve teaching and increase the awareness and insight for pupils from language minorities. The study is designed for future teachers, already practising teachers or other who work with children and youth from language minorities in pre-school, comprehensive school or secondary school, after-school care centres, or in other parts of the public sector. The programme is a one-year part-time programme of 2 semester´s duration. The course NO-123 gives a basic understanding of linquistic and cultural topics, and the next course NO-124 will give a more extensive description about the same topics.

Learning outcomes Having completed the course the students should - be qualified to apply a contrastive perspective on language and culture and get a broad insight into linguistic and cultural topics - be able to improve teaching for pupils from language minorities and contribute to heighten the awareness and insight of pupils from the language majority.

Occupational profiles of graduates and access to further studies The programme may be a part of the optional part of the General Teacher Education and in several Bachelor Programmes at the University. The programme is well suited as continuing education for teachers, pre-school teachers and other relevant professional groups.
