General description and profile of the programme The programme gives students basic knowledge of Norwegian/Nordic languages and literature from a broad cultural perspective. Through employing theoretical and practical approaches, students are expected to acquire a fundamental basis for working with language and text as well as literature and aspects of culture. The programme will give students a thorough comprehension of the relationship between these cultures and political and social conditions in the past and present.

Learning outcomes Having completed the programme, students will - have acquired a basic knowledge of Norwegian and Nordic language and literature and gained an understanding of the role language and literature play in a broad cultural perspective - through theoretical and practical approaches, students are expected to develop a fundamental basis for working critically with language and text and through this knowledge have a thorough comprehension of the relationship between these cultures and political and social conditions in the past and present - be able to communicate their knowledge in various professional contexts

Teaching methods Lectures, seminars and group work. Through independent study and instruction, students are expected to acquire factual knowledge and develop independent study skills. Students learn to present linguistic and literary topics pedagogically, both in writing and orally.

Assessment methods Forms of assessment vary. Requirements regarding Norwegian language variants must have been met through courses taken during the first and second semesters. Two examinations must be written in two different language variants.

Occupational profiles of graduates and access to further studies The study programme qualifies graduates either to teach the subject on different educational levels or work with language and literature.
