The programme aims at further developing the knowledge and skills that the students have acquired in English 1, thus enabling them to meet the challenges of the national curriculum for primary, secondary and upper secondary school, L06.

Students will: - have further developed the competence acquired in English 1 with regards to professional knowledge and proficiency and in English language, literature and culture - be able to use their knowledge and proficiency when teaching English in secondary school - master didactic challenges and act socially with professional ethical conciousness - be able to use ICT for their own learning purposes and when teaching English - have acquired knowledge of the National Curriculum (L06) and the competency aims in English in L06, with particular emphasis on secondary-school teaching in Years 8-10

Contact hours vary between lectures, seminars and language laboratory exercises. 80% attendance in seminars is compulsory. The language of instruction is English Description of teaching practice: Students in their 3rd year of Teacher Education have two weeks teaching practice in a secondary school. Students are encouraged to try out new ways of teaching English. Students in their 4th year of Teacher Education and other students write an obligatory term paper. Work placement is compulsory. Evaluation Requirements: Teaching practice, alternatively a term paper, and compulsory assignments must be assessed as a Pass. Also, students must have fulfilled the 80% attendance requirement at seminars. Examination: In EN-131 there is a 4-hour written examination and an oral examination, where both count as 50%. In EN-130 there is a 6-hour written examination.

The study is offered within the Teacher Education programme but is also suited for the continuing professional development of teachers in primary school and lower secondary school. English 1 in combination with English 2 gives 60 ECTS credits of English, equivalent to the One-year Programme, and will thus qualify for teaching English on all levels in the primary and secondary school. It also provides a basis for further studies in the subject area, ie for the Advanced Programme and later on for the Master´s Degree Programme.
