Higher Education Entrance Qualification
The programme provides a solid foundation in English language, literature and culture to meet the challenges of the national curriculum. The study also aims to develop students' ability in didactic reflection. Organisation of the course: EN-129 Literature, culture and didactics (15 credits) EN-130 Language and didactics (15 credits)
Students will: - have developed good proficiency in and knowledge about the English language - have insight into English-speaking cultures in order to foster respect, tolerance and understanding of their own culture and other cultures - have developed their knowledge and understanding of the subject so they can be good teachers of English - be able to help pupils develop their knowledge and proficiency in English using various approaches - be able to use ICT in their own learning and in the teaching situation - have acquired knowledge of the National Curriculum (L06) and the competency aims in English in L06, with particular emphasis on primary school teaching in Years 1 - 7
Contact hours vary between lectures, seminars and language laboratory exercises. 80% attendance in seminars is compulsory. The language of instruction is English Description of teaching practice: Students in their 3rd year of Teacher Education have two weeks teaching practice in a primary school. Students are encouraged to try out new ways of teaching. Students in their 4th year of Teacher Education and other students write an obligatory term paper. Work placement is compulsory. Requirements Teaching practice for third-year teacher trainees, alternatively a term paper for other students, and compulsory assignments must have obtained a Pass. Also, students must have fulfilled the 80% attendance requirement at seminars. Examination In EN-129 there is a 4-hour written examination and an oral examination, which both count as 50%. In EN-130 there is a 6-hour written examination.
The study is offered within the Teacher Education programme but is also suited for the continuing professional development of teachers in primary school and lower secondary school.
