TFL100-D1 Basic Didactics of Reading, Writing and Mathematics

The students must have attended these courses: NO-112 or NO-121, PED110 and parts of MA-107(From autumn 2008 MA-140 and MA-141).

After the course the student should be able to plan and carry out basic reading, writing and mathematics instruction in primary school take into consideration the challenges connected to children not having Norwegian as their first language and children with special needs work systematically to prevent the children from developing reading, writing and math disorders asses the quality of the instruction

The course has a cross-disciplinary basis, and have three main objectives: Teaching concepts and vocabulary, how to teach reading, writing and mathematics, and organisation and cooperation. The course contains preparation courses in how to teach basic reading, writing and mathematics for school beginners, and a group project connected to school practice, documented by a written report.

Lectures, seminars and group work. The instruction is interactive and requires the students to take independent responsibility for the work being done.

A group project, approved practice and completed the compulsory tasks according to the semester schedule

The project work counts for one third of the final mark and an individual oral examination counts for two thirds. The oral examination focuses both on the project and the objectives work placement of the syllabus.
