NO-120-2 Writing Skills and Information Literacy
Spring, Autumn
Norwegian.
Students are expected to have developed their skills in expressing themselves in various situations and in different genres and to be capable of reflecting on the writing process and on ways to create a text. They shall have acquired theoretical knowledge of texts and text production and be able to relate this to their own writing. In addition, students will have acquired increased information literacy, through skills connected with the use of tools, knowledge of adequate information sources and development of ability to evaluate sources critically. The aim is that students, starting with their own knowledge, are able to find data that they may transform into new knowledge.
The course is divided into two parts, writing technique (makes up two thirds) and information literacy (makes up one third). The writing technique part consists of practical exercises and a fixed theoretical syllabus. In relation with the exercises, there will be discussions about various writing situations, and students will work on process writing and writing in different genres. In addition, topics from the syllabus will be discussed. The information literacy part will focus on mastering tools, knowing adequate information sources and developing the ability to evaluate sources critically. This part consists of practical exercises and simulation of actual problems.
Tuition is provided in the form of exercises, seminars and some lectures (on parts of the theoretical syllabus).
