MU-130-1 Music Theory and Skills
Bachelor's Programme in Fine Arts - Specialisation in Music , , Music, 1-year Programme
Autumn
Norwegian.
On successful completion of this course, the students should: - be able to document knowledge of European classical music, Norwegian folk music, ethnic music and African American music in a historical and sociological perspective - be able to investigate, discuss and evaluate music from a standpoint of knowledge and understanding of music's elements - be familiar with various types of listening methodology, and be able to convey listening as a meaningful activity for children and adolescents - be able to use digital tools in creative work with music through the use of web resources, notation and studio tools - document insight in various composition techniques and be able to make functional arrangements of music for different ensembles - document experience with music as creative work.
Course contents: - Music History - Music Technology - Harmony - Aural Training
The course makes use of lectures and group seminars. Compulsory attendance for parts of the course.
- A test in Harmony assessed as passed - A test in Music Technology assessed as passed - Compulsory assignments - Compulsory attendance, assessed as passed
- A 5-hours written examination in Music History (constitues 50% of the mark). - A 2-hours written examination in Aural Training (constitues 20% of the mark). - Portfolio assessment in Harmony or Music Technology (constitues 30% of the mark). Assessed on the basis A-F (with A as the highest level and F as fail).
