MU-127-1 Music, Society and Culture
Bachelor's Programme in Pre-school Education , , Music in Pre-School Teacher Education, Semester Programme

Norwegian.
On successful completion of the course, the student will: - have increased his understanding of music as a societal phenomenon and as an expression of art and culture - be able to defend the value of music in growing up and in raising children - be able to document knowledge of different types of music from different epochs - be able to understand musical contexts and wholeness and be able to facilitate methodical listening with children - be able to solve tasks connected to practical music making with children, herein also connected to practical placement.
The students will acquire knowledge of music as part of our cultural heritage. Course contents: - Music Theory - Aural training - Harmony - Music history - Music and tradition
The course makes use of lectures and seminars. Compulsory attendance.
- One review from a concert - Report from threee different conserts, assessed as passed - One didactic essay which presents a composition - Portfolio assessment in Harmony - Test in Aural Training, assessed as passed - Seminar in Norwegian folk music, assessed as passed
-One 4-hour written examination in Music History. Assessed on a scale of A-F (with A as the highest mark and F as fail).
