This course will give a theoretical basis for understanding different scientific areas in historical, cultural and social contexts in general, and within music in particular. The course will also provide students with a methodical basis for working on the Master's thesis.
Course contents - Analysis-techniques - Music philosophy/Music aesthetics - The history of music - Science in music - Introduction to Scientific Methods. - Introduction to the established principles of historical and theoretical research. - Information about current research and its relevance for music science.
The course makes use of lectures and group seminars
- Take-home examination The students have to pass the course before they submit their Master's thesis. Assessed as pass/fail.
