KR-103-1 Introduction to Religion and Ethics

The course contents include the following: - secular philosophies of life, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Jehovah's Witnesses, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a number of neo-religious movements; - the history of creeds - the philosophy and creed of different theologies - different religious practices - internal diversity - the function of religious faith in secular society - the position of religions in Norway - socialisation of children and the young within the different theologies

The course is given as lectures, study trips and fieldwork. A study trip to Oslo is offered, with visits to religious groups. Students present experiences from fieldwork to fellow students and write a report to be approved by the course lecturer. A study trip abroad with relevance to this course may be offered during the academic year.

A fieldwork report must be assessed as a Pass before the students are allowed to take the final examination. The fieldwork and report may be replaced by a subject-related contribution in connection with participation on a study trip abroad.

A 3-hour written examination. Graded assessment.
