KH-101-1 Semester Programme in Art in Pre-school Teacher Education - Theory

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: - apply didactical theories to his own teaching - defend the subject's character and historical development in order to take part in the further development of the subject - understand and explain academic terms connected to aesthetics, art and creative work and be able to use them in reflection upon his own work - understand and explain how processes of perception and visual phenomena are significant to practical work in the subject of arts and crafts - debate didactical issues based on relevant theories connected to creative work, creativity and child development in work with two and three dimensional materials - defend various modes of assessment in arts and crafts. - be familiar with the term "art" and art's place in society and the school - be able to use image analysis to learn about the image's structure and content - have basic knowledge of European art with emphasis on the last 200 years - be able to present basic features in architectural history, as well as local architecture and building traditions - be able to debate the function of art and the culture of form.

The students will acquire knowledge of arts and crafts as a subject in school. The course will also enable the students to guide children in their work with arts and crafts.

The course makes use of lectures and teaching practice.

- Compulsory assignments - Teaching practice, assessed as passed

- 5-hours written exam. Assessed on the basis A-F (with A as the highest mark and F as failure).
