IN-605-1 Research Issues in International Entrepreneurship

The course builds on IN-600: Core Course 1 Theoretical Foundations for International Management Core Course 4 International Organisational Behaviour and HRM

On successful completion of the course the student will be able to: Critically analyse how organisational theories can be used to understand entrepreneurship Discuss and use theoretical perspectives relevant to international entrepreneurship Develop a research topic which contributes to the field.

The purpose of the course is to introduce students to current research frontiers in international entrepreneurship. The aim of the course is to put international entrepreneurial research into general theoretical frameworks within organization sciences, as eg. institutional theory, evolutionary theory, the resource based view, and transaction cost theory. The course focuses on a few specific areas of research, which we will present, discuss, and criticize. Topics will be selected on the basis of novelty (cutting-edge research), importance (key issues), and the research interests of course faculty and participants. The general aim is to create an understanding of international entrepreneurship rooted in general theories of organizations and strategy. Content: Theory on International Entrepreneurship Entrepreneurship and internationalization International new ventures (global start-ups or born global) Culture on entrepreneurship Entrepreneurship and networks.

Students will be assessed based on a theoretical or empirical term paper of approximately 20-30 pages. Pass/fail assessment.
