IDR106-D1 Physical Development

After having completed the course, the student will: 1: Have basic knowledge of childrens´: physical and motor development and learning play and activities in various surroundings movement and growth 2: Have basic knowledge in didactics and be able to apply this knowledge 3: Be able to present his/her knowledge, experience and understanding in various professional contexts

The course is divided into four main sections. During the course an alternation between professional knowledge, experience, educational and practical work, reflection and cooperation are aspired. Children´s development and learning Physical growth and development Motor development Observation of children´s motor skills Play and activities in various environments Gymnasium activities Water activities Outdoor activities (winter/spring) Movement and growth Growth and play The role of the subject in pre-school, school and sports Physical exterior First Aid Professional didactics Planning, implementation and evaluation of physical activity for children Observation and evaluation of motor functions Gymnasium activities with children Outdoor activities with children

Various working methods of teaching will be used throughout the course, including lectures, theoretical and practical group work, project-orientated instruction, discussion and exercises in guidance instruction and practical work in children´s groups. Parts of the instruction are organised in separate courses. These will normally cover several of the main sections mentioned above. Some subsidiary sections of the course are highlighted in other subjects, both in theory and practice. These include, among others, dance/drama and movement to music. Certain courses will for practical reasons be arranged outside of the university. This normally applies to the winter outdoor activities course. Compulsory participation: All practical courses are mandatory. Please refer to the semester plan. Active participation is required. This includes: water activities course, gymnasium and the outdoors winter activities course may be taught at the mountain (expenses are covered by the students) activities with children in the gymnasium/indoors first aid It is important that students experience how physical development is organised and integrated into the daily routine/and pre-school. Through preparing and following up lessons at the university the students will receive the necessary coaching in practical routines in pre-school from the course instructor. In addition the students will receive practice in organising and implementing physical activity outside the ordinary practice periods, where either the children´s groups partake in ordinary instruction at the university or periods of ordinary instruction will take place at pre-school or school. Supervision is an integral component of teaching, for example in the form of practical instruction periods with children in various types of movement. Colloquium work in relevant subjects is organised such that students have access to assistance and academic supervision from the course instructor.

Approved project and practice period Approved assignments and participated satisfactorily in instruction: - Planning, implementing and writing a personal evaluation of a practical - methodical activity situation: in the gymnasium or in the outdoors. The assignment is to be completed individually. in winter. The assignment is to be carried out in groups. mandatory course participation (please see above)
