After having completed the course, the student will: have knowledge about and insight into scientific theory and research methods in health- and social informatics have an understanding of practical and ethical aspects of research work be able to account for different directions in scientific theory be able to account for qualitative and quantitative research methods and the development of research design, with special focus on relevant methods and design within the health - and social informatics which will provide the basis for the design of the master project have a theoretical background and practical experience in analyzing research data collected with recognised research methods be able to analyse and evaluate published research material
In this course practical and ethical aspects of research work and methodology are focused. A deeper understanding is given of directions in scientific theory and reasons and conditions for different research methods as well as the development and evaluation of research design. The use of methods of analysis for the preparation and presentation of research data. Evaluation of the reliability and validity of the research is emphasised.
Net-based study, including two week-long seminars. Lectures and group work
Individual 5-page essay based on two research articles, one based on qualitative methods and one on quantitative methods, must be passed. For other criteria please see the course brochure.
