After having completed the course, the student will: have an understanding of the ICT applications utilised in the health and social sectors as well as an understanding of the changes taking place in research, education and the general workforce caused by the increased use of ICT applications have an understanding of basic scientific approaches be able to apply and discuss scientific research methods with focus on quantitative methods and evaluation research in problem oriented projects be able to evaluate published research and analyse data from the most common research methods have an understanding of the application of computer technology in one specific area and knowledge about the interaction between the information system and the user be able to apply and evaluate the designing of problem oriented projects as a method in project work
An introduction to scientific approaches and methods with focus on quantitative methods and evaluation research in health and social informatics. The student group will choose a project topic based on a specific area within the Health and Social Welfare sector. The application of ICT within the area will be mapped out (by literature studies and other referances). The data material will be analysed in order to define problems related to the use of ICT within the current area. The problems may be of technical, organisational and communicative charachter. One can choose to focus on one of these aspects.
Net-based study programme, including two week-long seminars. Four seminars of which three are compulsory. Individual supervision (two lessons compulsory).
A graded group-based project report must be passed before candidates may present themselves for the individual oral examination. For more information please see the course brochure.
